It seems we are saved! If you get your news from the Main Stream Media you will have read that the economic party is back on, people are once again spending like drunken sailors, the stock market is booming, GDP is up!
One question lingers however that no one seems to want to ask; if people can’t take out any more M.E.W. (Mortgage Equity Withdrawal) due to falling home values, how is the party back on? Real Estate was the main engine that fueled the debt party. That simple fact points to a completely different reality. The party is not back on.
The propaganda machine however, tells us that people just outside of our sight-line are back to prosperity. What about the rest of us? The message sent to many less fortunate is, you have been left behind, you no longer count, sorry about your luck.
There are an estimated 11 million people out of work with close to a half million new applications per week still coming. What will they do now that they have been forgotten by the media and largely ignored by government reporting agencies? What will be their impact on society when the last of their Emergency Unemployment Insurance runs out? Nothing good is my guess. Ask yourself; what would you do if you had a family but absolutely no income, running out of food and facing foreclosure or eviction. Then ask yourself; do I want to be on the other side of potentially desperate acts by some who may have little incentive left to stick to their ethical boundaries? It is not a pretty thing to contemplate…
There are of course moral issues that come up in all of this, but no one of us can save the world. The best we can do is prepare to not be a victim of it and unfolding events that are beyond our control.
